What is the purpose of the training?
The WIS Wallcovering Installer School courses are intended to give the student an acceleration of learning into the installation of wallcovering goods. When taken as a whole, the 10 Residential Installation Specialist courses will give the student approximately 80% of the education needed to be successful with installation. The goal is to give the student confidence in their skills to be able to continue to learn.
How long will each course take to complete?
Each course includes approximately 2 – 3 hours of self-paced instruction on installation topics and all is online. There are a few quiz questions which are not timed.
Is there a recommended sequence for taking the courses?
The progression of education for the student would be as follows:

- Tools of the Trade
- Primers, Liners and Adhesives
- Wall Prep
- Setting Up your Professional Workspace
- Professional Wallcovering Removal
- Pattern Matching
- Seams and Seaming Techniques
- Layout and Engineering
- Installation Basics
Can I take the courses individually or do I have to purchase the series?
Each course is individually priced however, the bundle has a 10-course discount.
Can I share the information?
The courses are not intended to be shared. Each student must pay and demonstrate their individual capabilities.
Can I use the courses in my own training with employees?
The information in the courses is owned in whole and in part by the Wallcovering Installer School. It may not be copied or used for any other purpose.
Can I share an email with another student?
Each student must have their own account and a unique email thus allowing the student to log in and out during their learning. The system places a virtual cookie on the computer tracking the student progress.
What do I get when I complete the courses?
Each course gives that student a certificate for the individual course. Upon completion of all 10 courses, the student should submit copies of these to [email protected]. A Residential Installation Specialist certificate will be issued and a packet with the final certificate, hat pin and patch mailed to the student. The student will also receive a free (valued at $350) one-year probationary membership in the Wallcovering Installers Association. Students also can take advantage of a free (valued at $125) Core Skills training course at the WIA Annual Convention.
Can I get a mentor?
A free one-year probationary membership in the Wallcovering Installers Association (WIA) is included with the RIS certification. The WIA is the international trade association for the profession of wallcovering installation. With this membership, you will have access to our members only Facebook group where you can gain access to hundreds of guru installers many new members find this support group to be extremely valuable when seeking experienced guidance for something which you might not yet know. Having access to the decades of insights and experience of our members can often be a very valuable alternative to the constant experimentation that you might have tried on your own. This group is intended for sharing information and students can post looking for mentor opportunities as well as absorb a wealth of information.
Is there any in-person training?
The WIA/WIS presents a one-day hands-on Core Skills class on the day prior to the Wallcovering Installers Association annual convention. This course is FREE for WIS students. Transportation and housing are not included. This class will enable Wallcovering Installer School students to work with professionals at the wall, hands on.
